Why We Built This
Most pomo timers fall into two categories: rigid, clinical tools that feel like enterprise software, or pretty toys that break the moment you switch tabs. We wanted something different — a timer that's precise enough for engineers and beautiful enough for creatives, without compromising either.
Pomo finder began as a personal tool. The founder, a developer and writer, needed a timer that:
- Didn't lose time when switching tabs (most timers do)
- Had a lo-fi radio that didn't require logging into Spotify/YouTube
- Felt like a calm, physical study space — not a browser tab
- Respected privacy: no accounts, no tracking, no data leaving the device
When friends started asking for the link, it became a public project.
What Makes It Different
High-Precision Timing
Uses Date.now() timestamps, not setInterval. Accurate to the millisecond even after hours of tab switching.
Zero-Login Lo-Fi Radio
Four curated 24/7 streams. No OAuth, no accounts, no ads. Just press play.
Living Study Room
Animated steam, breathing lamp glow, weather particles (rain/snow/stars). A digital space that feels alive.
True Privacy
All data in localStorage. No backend, no analytics, no tracking. Ever.
Design Philosophy
- Calm Technology: The interface recedes when you're focusing. Colors shift by mode (rose for focus, emerald for short break, indigo for long break).
- Keyboard-First: Space to start/pause, R to reset, S to skip, Z for zen mode, M to mute. Never reach for the mouse mid-flow.
- Accessible by Default: WCAG AA contrast, focus-visible outlines, reduced-motion support, semantic HTML.
- Works Offline: Once loaded, the timer, tasks, and settings work without internet. Only the radio needs connectivity.
The Name
Pomo = Pomodoro (Italian for tomato, the fruit on the original kitchen timer).
finder = A tool that helps you find your focus, not just track time.
Together: A compass for deep work.
